Tanzania Foods You Should Keep an Eye Out For

You had a long and fun day at all the attractions that Tanzania has to offer. Now you are hungry and deciding on what you would like to eat for your first stay. This is your first time visiting, so you don't know much about the delightful food that Tanzania has to offer. No worries! This blog is just for you.

1. Chipsi Mayai

This dish is called Chipsi Mayai and it happens to be very popular. It is a French fries omelet made with fresh hand-cut potatoes. It is mainly considered a breakfast food, but you can still enjoy this dish any time of the day. You can find this dish just about anywhere on the streets of Tanzania.

2. Nyama Choma

This dish is a little different from the dish above. Nyama Choma is a dish that you eat with your hands and can be accompanied by a salad. The dish consists of goat meat, but you can also substitute it for beef. When it comes to the seasoning not very much is needed to give it much flavor. Salt and Pepper will be all you need to kick up the spice on this dish. You can eat the dish plain with just the meat or you can kick up a notch and marinate with sauce, hot peppers, onions, and garlic.

3. Ugali

Ugali is a simple dish that is made up of maize flour and water. But don't let that fool you because this dish is still very rich in taste. It is also the national dish of Tanzania which makes it very special. It can be eaten alone or with a very thick sauce and any side dish of your choice. Most people choose steamed vegetables, fish stew, or some type of spinach or greens. This dish also has no need for any silverware. The majority of Tanzania's famous dishes are eaten by hand.

4. Zanzibar Pizza

Zanzibar pizza is a dough that is fried and folded like a packet. The inside is stuffed with different types of ingredients like mayonnaise, tomatoes, meat, and cream cheese. Which is very different from the classic pizza that we all know today. To top it off, the dish is smothered with a spicy chili sauce.
